My Story

Crafting with Colour is the outcome of a love of creativity, previous business failures, a very determined owner, a belief that everything we own can be colourful and the life lessons that came along the way.
Here’s the full story of how Crafting with Colour came to be.

Back in 2015, when high school wasn’t getting in the way, I spent my time baking and decorating cakes. Eventually, I developed a reputation, and people began to order cakes. I wasn’t going to say no - getting paid for something I loved? Easy yes. I charged so little that ingredients were barely covered, but that didn’t matter, I was enjoying myself and learning a lot in the process.

Five years on, I decided I wanted to open a cafe, so open a cafe I did. Saying it like that makes it sound so simple. As I was soon to learn, it wasn’t that simple. The Village Groove Cafe - a plant-based, retro themed cafe - opened in 2020. Now, does the year 2020 ring a bell to you? Well, as luck would have it, that was the beginning of covid. I remember that we all thought it would be over within a few months. Surely this couldn’t go on for years?

I closed the cafe almost two years later, having never been able to operate without covid restrictions for the entirety of that time. Yearning for some sort of consistency (as far as finances were concerned, owning the cafe during a pandemic proved to be quite difficult) I moved on to a regular old corporate job. While working at this job gave me a consistent paycheque, and helped my partner and I buy a house (huge deal!), I didn’t have the opportunity to be creative in any aspect of the job. Trust me, I tried. I hope you guys enjoyed those rainbow spreadsheets.

One day in 2023, I decided I wanted to get back into the small business game, I wanted to be creative again, and I began working on the business that would eventually become Crafting with Colour. Though I soon learned that working full time, renovating a house two hours away from where we lived and trying to start a business all at the same time was an impossible feat. I also threw in beginning a Bachelor’s degree in there too at some point. Ultimately, it wasn’t until I decided to leave that full time job, with no plan and a small business that had earned $0, that I was really able to build Crafting with Colour.

As I write this it’s January 2026, about six months after making the decision to leave that job. And I can tell you it was the best decision I ever made. Sometimes you have to make the jump, without yet knowing where you’ll land. And if I’m honest, I’m still not sure where I’ll land. But if I know anything, it’s that I am one determined woman, who will never give up on her dream of building a successful, colourful, creative business.

Over the last six months, I have worked relentlessly on every aspect of Crafting with Colour. I’ve strived to create a beautiful, high quality and colourful catalogue of products spanning across the accessories, home and stationery categories. I’m so proud of my current range, and my list of product ideas go for miles, so I’m always expanding. I’ve seen success at markets, both local in the Yorke Peninsula, and across Adelaide. Attending markets has been a highlight of my weekends, and I am always working to make my stall better. I’ve gained confidence in filming and editing content for my social media platforms. I’ve learned how to create a website - the one you’re on right now! And I’m still trying to juggle that Bachelor’s degree (in business, of course!).

My previous business ventures and past life lessons are to thank for the success of Crafting with Colour. Determination and passion will help me take this business to places that I can’t quite yet imagine. This might not come as a surprise, but I don’t believe life should be plain or simple or boring. The life lessons bring colour, our experiences are beautiful patterns. Life’s short - wear that fun outfit, fill your walls with colourful artwork, display your beautiful trinkets. Everything in our lives can be filled with colour and fun patterns - we just have to make it happen.

And to you, the beautiful person who read this - thank you. Your support means the absolute world, and without supporters like you, this small business would be just a dream. I look forward to meeting you at my next market, or packing your online order, or chatting with you on socials. Or even if you’re just browsing, I’m over the moon that you’re here. Thank you.
